Vale Ambassadors

The Vale of Glamorgan is full of people passionate about this amazing place. Our Ambassadors are such people who are more than eager to share their knowledge of their square mile with you. Below is a list of some who are happy to be contacted as points of information, others who have particular knowledge to share, and others who would be only too delighted to meet up with you to chat about some of the best places to see and great things to do in the Vale of Glamorgan.

They’ve also been busy writing blogs and researching articles on history, food, folklore, myths and legends, arts and crafts and much more, which they share regularly here.



Julie Baxendale – Julie owns a small, successful Bed and Breakfast in Ewenny.  She enjoys helping guests to explore and enjoy the Vale, often using social media and the internet as a starting point.  Julie is interested in local history and nature and is a member of the Vale Tourism Association Committee.

Ingrid Walker – Ingrid is a stained glass artist/craftsperson.    Born and brought up in the Vale, after studying Environmental Science she then followed her other interest in art, taking up Stained Glass.  Ingrid moved back to the Vale as an adult and combines her love of the environment, art and craft living and working in Southerndown.

Charlotte Lord – Charlotte has lived in the Vale of Glamorgan since 1996.  She works on her family Christmas Tree Farm and welcomes guests to stay in her woodland retreats. Charlotte is involved in the local Girl Guiding organisation and also enjoys learning Welsh.  For ideas and advice on visiting the area, especially with children, contact Charlotte. Other languages: French & Welsh



Mandy Davies – For the last 15 years Mandy has run a self catering business near Cowbridge.  She chairs the Vale Tourism Association and works closely with other groups in the Vale.  Mandy is passionate about giving visitors a wonderful ‘Vale’ experience.

Rebecca Exley – Rebecca has lived in the Vale of Glamorgan for over 23 years.  She is a geologist and works for Valeways, looking after 20 waymarked footpaths in the countryside. She is a volunteer with the Cowbridge Physic Garden with a wide knowledge of places and people.  Contact Rebecca to make the most of your visit.




Ian Fell – Ian is a former television director, who then ran education at Wales’ National Museum.  His retirement coincided with discovering astonishing medieval wall paintings in Llancarfan’s village church.  Learning and enthusing about these doorstep wonders has brought him countless opportunities to celebrate and talk about the historical treasures of this undiscovered Vale. Other language: French, bit of Welsh.

Betty Alden – Betty has lived in Cowbridge for over 40 years and has developed an interest in its history as well as the geography, history and natural history of the Vale overall. A keen walker in the area with active grandchildren, she runs the Cowbridge Local History Room and welcomes visitors from near and far to browse through its archive, research ancestors, learn more about the area past or present. Other languages: some French!

Shan Eastwood – Shân has worked all over South Wales as a teacher of art and special needs.  She has changed careers to build up a small, bespoke tour company visiting Wales and Southern England.  Shân lives on the outskirts of Penarth and has a keen interest in history and Vale of Glamorgan life.

Carolyn McKenzie – Following a career in the corporate industry, Carolyn has recently retired and enjoys welcoming visitors to the Vale.  Carolyn now has the time to follow her interests of walking, golf with emphasis also on food and drink.  If you’re planning a visit to the Vale feel free to contact Carolyn for some ideas and advice.


Ian Thomas – Ian runs a tour guide business in the Vale.  Active in the community of Cowbridge and surrounding area,  Ian enjoys welcoming visitors, and helping to plan trips with information about places to visit.  Ask Ian about local walks, local events and activities or meet for a chat over a cup of coffee.

Dylan Jones – Dylan has lived in the Vale now for over 3 years.  Trained and educated in photography he has combined his two passions, walking and photography to set up FfotoRamble, relaxed and informal photography tuition in and around the Heritage Coast.  A Welsh speaker Dylan will be happy to answer any questions in his own inimitable way, and will enjoy sharing local photographic hotspots with visitors. Other languages: Welsh.  Email:


Carol Adams – Carol runs a successful food tourism business, Food, Adventure, and contributes on a regular basis to a popular food blog, Corpulent Capers. Ask Carol about local food and drink producers, restaurants and if you are lucky, she may share some of her favourite places for foraging for wild food.



Anthony Ernest – Anthony has worked in local and national tourism for many years.  Penarth-born, he now helps run a busy B & B near the seafront.  A volunteer Coastguard and founder of the local RNLI Station prior to retirement, Anthony has extensive knowledge of the Vale’s rich heritage, which he enjoys passing on to visitors.
